Information Technology Certificates


The University of Cincinnati OMI College of Applied Science offers four professional certificate programs in information technology. This certificate is designed for individuals wishing to gain additional knowledge and skills in the field of IT. Furthermore, professionals wishing to renew and/or acquire skills and knowledge that are current in IT can also use this learning path to enhance their career goals. The certificate is designed to help students apply as well as integrate current computing technologies to expand their fields of expertise and enhance career objectives.

As the modern society becoming more and more intertwined with technology, IT quickly turns into any productive individual's must-acquired skill. Regardless of an individual's career objectives, a concentrated study in IT in a relatively short period of time shall certainly enhance his/her skills in the work place, as well as widen the prospect of career choices.

Who should Enroll

If you are working in the information technology field or are interested in working in that field and wish to acquire or update knowledge and skills, this program is for you.

If you are employed in the field and wish to obtain certification for career advancement, without the time commitment of pursuing a degree, this program is for you.

If you are working toward a degree and wish to obtain additional certification, this program is for you.

 

Certificate Requirements

To apply for an IT certificate, the student must have completed a baccalaureate degree. To obtain the IT certificate, a student prior to graduation, must have successfully completed 30 credit hours of 100+ level course work in IT.

You are eligible to receive a certificate when you have successfully completed the agreed upon courses from the OMI College of Applied Science.

A 2.0 average must be achieved in these courses to receive the certificate.

To receive the information technology certificate (suitable for framing), a written request must be submitted to the academic director within one year of program completion. All required courses must be completed within a two-year period from date of acceptance into the program.

 

To Apply

  • A student should complete the application form.
  • Upon acceptance, the student must meet with the faculty adviser within 30 days of acceptance to develop the plan of study (otherwise, their acceptance will be void)
  • The plan of study must be signed and returned by the student no later than 30 days from the date of the meeting with the adviser (otherwise, their acceptance will be void).

Certificate in Database Management

This certificate is intended to provide an in-depth understanding of database technologies. This certificate is ideal for new or existing database administrators and data administrators. This certificate covers the full spectrum of database topics in order to prepare students and practitioners to be knowledgeable in database concepts, terminology, design methods and techniques.

Certificate in Networking

This certificate has been specifically developed to provide the participants with a practical understanding of networking. This certificate is targeted for the roles of local area network or other network administrators. It covers the practical day-to-day issues necessary to allow effective operation and management of networks. The participants will learn the components of a network, how the components of a network should be designed, selected and implemented as well as how information is moved throughout a network.

This certificate is intended for programmers, program analysts, systems analysts and software engineers at all levels to accelerate their skill development. This certificate provides a strong foundation in software development with an emphasis on systems analysis and design, coding, testing and project management.
